Abstract

This article aims to highlight crimes of racism and racial injury in the state of Goiás between 2019 and 2023. The perspective of racism adopted is that it is structural and cultural, and the Law is part of this structure. The methodological path is based on the qualitative-quantitative approach and documentary research and was developed in two stages: a) Study of the Brazilian Forum of Public Security website – data from the Brazilian Yearbook of Public Security were collected and complemented with data from the Atlas of Violence; b) Survey of police reports of cases of racism and racial insult between 2019 and 2023 in the state of Goiás – the data were requested through the Electronic Citizen Information Service. The results point to exponential growth in racist practices, jumping from 580 records in 2019 to 1044 in 2022. Most of the records were typified as racial insults, in line with discussions about the precarious typification of crimes of racism. Over the years, the registration of Occurrence Reports has increased in the Metropolitan Region of Goiânia, in the Integrated Development Region of the Federal District and Surroundings and in the Southwest of Goiás. Finally, it is hoped that by giving visibility to the data, they can contribute so that people involved in the municipal and state political structure see the urgency of the anti-racist debate in the state and that projects such as the Goiás Pact without Racism do not only appear in legal regulations.
