THE IMPACT OF COVID 19 ON SAFE FOOD IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND NO BRAZIL

Abstract

The Covid 19 pandemic caused 6,881,955 deaths worldwide; in Brazil 705,494 people died, 37,789.04 people were infected and in the Dominican Republic 4,384 died and 667,048 were infected, and public health systems were overwhelmed by the crisis and this disease increased the rates of hunger and food insecurity. What was the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on Food Security in Brazil and the Dominican Republic? The general objective: To analyze the main effects of the Covid 19 pandemic on food security in Brazil and the Dominican Republic to identify vulnerabilities and propose actions and strategies for future crises. Specific objectives: To analyze studies, reports on the impact of Covid 19, health statistics, the response of States during the global crisis, the impact on poverty, hunger and Food Security. In Brazil, before Covid 19 in 2020, there were 51 million poor people, in 2023 there were more than 70 million people in poverty and 5.8 million in extreme poverty and in the Dominican Republic around 2,460,000 in poverty. Therefore, through the adoption of reforms in the Public Policy on Food Security, the adoption of strategies and innovations in food production, it is possible to better prepare for the impact of future crises and thus achieve adequate and less vulnerable food security in Brazil and according to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, World Health Organization, Queiroz (2020). The research uses a deductive approach and bibliographic research.
